| The Scary Truths Behind the Iconic Yellow School Buses
Any vehicles deemed below safety standards would have to removed from service immediately and either retired or brought back into compliance and reinspected prior to return to service. This approach which would help reduce unnecessary costs of arbitrary replacement to school districts while insuring the safety of the precious cargo these buses carry. " — Dr Francis (Somerville, New Jersey) "Basically, the bus is usually not the issue. If you can maintain any piece of equipment then it will usually continue to work. Look at the air force! They have many planes in the air that are older than some of these school districts. Yet they still work and men and women still fly them. Most of the problems as I see it is the School Bus Driver and maybe even the mechanics! Some of these folks drive these buses as they would a sport car.

American Le Mans Series accepts racing challenge to go green
Racing suffers from an image as a fuel-wasting, environmentally unfriendly sport, despite enormous popularity with its fans. But at least one auto racing series has determined to present a "green" image to the public at large. That's why the American Le Mans Series is teaming up with the EPA, Department of Energy and the Society of Automotive Engineers to create an all-green racing series in 2008. "The ALMS stands alone in providing a platform of solutions for our nation's automotive, transportation and energy needs," claims Scott Atherton, president and CEO of the series. ALMS is the first racing series to partner with government agencies and the premier automotive engineering society in the country to advance alternate fuel technology that may eventually find its way into cars you can buy in the showroom.
Sports in Brief: Next up is France as U.S. eliminates Austria in Davis ...
The defending champion United States eliminated Austria from the Davis Cup yesterday to set up a quarterfinal against France. Twins Bob and Mike Bryan were in full command, defeating the doubles team of Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2, in Vienna. The victory gave the Americans a 3-0 lead in the best-of-five first-round series. France advanced by going up, 3-0, against Romania and will play the Americans on April 11-13. Winter sports Lindsey Vonn joined Picabo Street and Daron Rahlves as the most successful American downhill skiers when she blew away the field in Sestriere, Italy, for her fourth win in seven downhills this season. It was the ninth downhill victory of her career, matching Street and Rahlves. With Bode Miller in front in the men's overall standings, this is the first time Americans have led both the men's and women's ranks since Tamara McKinney and Phil Mahre won overall titles in 1983.

Fame has returned to the sought-after original Audi quattro thanks to its starring role in the new BBC TV drama series 'Ashes to Ashes', set in 1980. The most priceless example of the legendary sports car that pioneered four-wheel-drive for production road cars is Audi UK's own unregistered car with zero miles, and will never be put up for sale. So rare is this car - the last right-hand-drive quattro sports car ever made - that Audi is forced to keep it in a secret location and stored in a sealed, dehumidified environment. Similar to the TV star example seen nationally each week from February 7th, the as- new, just as it left the line Audi-owned example even shares the same bright red paint colour. An untouched and as new car could actually be worth an unlimited sum to an enthusiast Audi collector.
ECU bus passengers out of hospital
An East Carolina University bus with two student passengers aboard veered into oncoming traffic on 10th Street between Charles Boulevard and Evans Street on Thursday. The driver, Nathen James Rennels, who is also an ECU student, lost consciousness at the wheel and crashed into cars, a transformer and utility poles, Greenville police said. No one suffered life-threatening injuries in the wreck, an ECU official said. The bus driver suffered a medical episode that lead to his loss of consciousness, Greenville Police Cpl. Kip Gaskins said. Rennels and the two students on board were transported to Pitt County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. The passengers were later released, university spokesman John Durhman said. "He piled into something like eight cars coming from the other direction," said ECU sophomore Lauren Veal, whose westbound car was stopped at 10th and Charles when the bus passed her.

Lefevre said that a new main sponsor had been expected to take over from Quick Step and Innergetic, but due to the doping problems in the sport, it decided not to support the team. Luckily for the managers and riders, current sponsors decided to extend their support for another year. "Normally we would've stopped, but when the new main sponsor pulled out we took responsibility and stayed together, with Frans [De Cock from Quick Step]," said Luc Maes from Latexco of Innergetic. Quick Step has supported Lefevre for a decade, while Innergetic has been a faithful co-sponsor for four years. The team's line-up for this critical season bears a strong resemblance to the 2007 squad, with only Matteo Carrara (Unibet), Alexander Efimkin (Barloworld) and Stijn Devolder (Discovery Channel) being new names and veterans Serge Baguet, Peter Van Petegem and Cedric Vasseur gone after ending their careers.
Newman Gives Penske Elusive Daytona Win
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- One down, one to go for The Captain. Roger Penske picked up his elusive Daytona 500 victory, a $1 million bonus and a new challenge - pairing the race he just conquered with the one that means the most to him. Ryan Newman gave Penske his first Daytona 500 victory in 24 years of trying, a frustrating span for a car owner accustomed to dominating big events: He's won the Indianapolis 500 a record 14 times. Now he wants one more. Matching victories in two of motorsports' most sought after bounties. "Comparing it to the Indy 500, as Ryan knows, we've been open-wheel guys and coming down here has been tough," Penske said following Sunday's victory. "This has got to go to the top of the charts here, this win. What I'm going to try to do this year is have them back-to-back, have one in May, too.
